Does Information Matter? Some Experimental Evidence from a Common-Pool Resource Game
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper analyzes the effect of the availability of information about the payoff structure on the behavior of players in a Common-Pool Resource game. Six groups of six individuals played a complete information game, while other six groups played the same game but with no information about the payoff function. It will be shown that the patterns of investment decisions in both treatments are remarkadly similar. In fact, it cannot be rejected that there is no difference in the investment decisions at the aggregate level between the two treatments. Furthermore, after arguing that the unique Nash equilibrium of the game does not organize the individual data, two individual learning models are studied: one following a marginal analysis (the Best-reply function) and one following an average analysis (the Average-reply function). However, the predictive value of such learning models is found to be poor. JEL classification: C72; C91; D83; Q2.

Using game theory approach to interpret stable policies for Iran’s oil and gas common resources conflicts with Iraq and Qatar
Oil and gas as the non-renewable resources are considered very valuable for the countries with petroleum economics. These resources are not only diffused equally around the world, but also they are common in some places which their neighbors often come into conflicts. Consequently, it is vital for those countries to manage their resource utilization. Lately, game theory was applied in conflict ...

متن کاملIran's Strategy in Utilizing Common Resources of Oil and Gas: Game Theory Approach
Utilization management of Persian Gulf oil and gas reserves is important, because of the importance of this area owing to the fact that it comprised 60% of the proven oil reserves and 40% of the proven gas reserves of the world and it determines the world's oil and gas strategies. By using game theory, this paper seeks to achieve the best strategy that Iran could use in confronting other partne...
متن کاملAn Experimental Test of the Pigovian Hypothesis
Implementation of Pigovian taxation relies on the presumption that individuals follow self-interested Nash equilibrium predictions of behavior when making decisions. Experimental evidence indicates that, while Nash predictions perform quite well in impersonal exchange, in other environments, subjects behave in ways inconsistent with these equilibria. The predictive power of game-theoretic resul...
متن کاملHow Robust is Peer Punishment for Promoting Efficient Cooperation? Evidence from Nonlinear Environments*
Most social dilemma and public goods provision problems exhibit nonlinearities that lead to equilibrium outcomes in the interior of the choice space. Yet this environment has been ignored in most experimental studies of peer punishment. This paper examines the effectiveness of peer punishment in promoting socially efficient behavior in such nonlinear environments. We report results from a labor...
